Free App Fridays: Sidekicks
I'm really excited about today's post. This app is one of the reasons I wanted to do this Free App Friday Series-- because there are some truly amazing resources out there that I want people to hear about.
If you've been reading the blog, you might remember the name Ron Suskind, who wrote Life, Animated? He was a keynote speaker at the UVU Conference on Autism in 2017. I had the opportunity to speak with him briefly about an app that he helped pioneer, based on the experiences Ron Suskind had with his son Owen, who has autism.
Sidekicks allows kids with autism to have conversations with a digital avatar, combined with videos that connect to their interests.
I could explain more about how it works, but it just so happens that there's already a video ready to do just that:
I think this app looks amazing; I've downloaded it myself and I'm looking at ways to try to integrate it into music therapy sessions.
Unfortunately the app is currently only available for apple products (iPhones and iPads) but on their website they have a waiting list for the Android app once it is ready for testing.
